Statement on the preservation of artist’s intent:

A major consideration for the relaunch of the website for Sarah Bednarek by Artist Estate Studio, LLC, was the preservation of the artist’s initial design. Artist Estate Studio has captured this design, preserving it as a lasting legacy of how she saw her work displayed and organized digitally.

One of the critical challenges of digital preservation is the structural fidelity to the original. Vintage computer enthusiasts have done a remarkable job recreating games, software and operating systems through an industry of emulators which run the exact same code as the original. For many of these products, the analogue clicks, fuzz and distortions that were present in the original actually provided part of functionality of the software.

These factors have been carefully considered by the team at Artist Estate Studio. Sarah Bednarek originally manually coded sarahbednarek.com in 2011 using HTML. As a part of the preservation of her legacy, Artist Estate Studio visually remastered the original website to mirror Bednarek’s original site. All fonts, colors, images, text and interactivity have been preserved as an exact match for the original site. There have been no changes to resolution, language or user flow. In order to retain long-term usability and to mimic the same user experience as the original, the hosting, urls and image filenames have been minimally altered with a static library of all original information preserved exactly as they were created.
